Hannah Cockroft opens All About Me press preview

Wednesday 27 March

Three days ahead of its opening to the public on March 29, we gave a sneak preview of our £2.9m gallery to the press and key people who made the gallery happen.

Only hours after contractors made the finishing touches to All About Me, a whole group of guests were invited to explore the gallery in the company of its new ambassador – Paralympian Hannah Cockroft.  Leigh-Anne Stradeski, our chief executive, gave a speech thanking all the numerous people who made it happen but also drew attention to the important messages the gallery aims to deliver.

“Creating and installing this new gallery is not just about putting in exhibits so that everything is shiny and new.  All About Me is a gallery of our time, reflecting the interests, issues and concerns of children and families today and helping sole the social and health problems of tomorrow.”

Visitors were taken on a full tour of the gallery and got to meet Zoom, its brand new robot, who plays a key role in introducing everyone to the experience and helping them explore how their bodies work and how to look after them.  Hannach Cockroft was inevitably in huge demand from photographers and school children who joined her as she explored all the new exhibits.

All About Me opens on Friday March 29 (Easter weekend), so between now and then the gallery development team are doing final tweaks and adjustments in time for the expected big rush.
