Eureka! Mersey

Eureka! Mersey will be a place
and a space like no other...

Eureka! are delighted to be working with Wirral Council and the Liverpool City Region CA to bring a whole new experience to the North West.

Planned to open in 2022, Eureka! Mersey will be an innovative blending of the much loved and extraordinary playful learning experiences associated with the Eureka! brand with cutting edge 21st century science and discovery centre innovation.

It will bring together families, children and young people from across the North West to explore science, technology and innovation, creating and encouraging young people’s aspirations and joining them up with pathways to skills development and future work.

The main visitor attraction will be housed in the buildings at Seacombe terminal (currently operating as Spaceport) designed primarily with, and for, 6 – 14 year olds, with experiences for our younger audiences under 5 in a space of their own in the ferry terminal building, as well as threaded throughout the main attraction.

We hope to welcome around 187,000 visitors per year, providing a regularly changing schedule of exhibitions, learning programmes, school and community workshops and after school activities.

Eureka! is already an award winning attraction, with more than 25 years’ experience of meeting visitors’ needs and providing a fantastic family day out.

We have a strong track record of talking with and listening to visitors, and the co-creation approach we’re taking to developing Eureka! Mersey is a natural extension of our commitment to delivering an offer which resonates with our community, an experience which is welcoming, interesting, valued and connected to the lives of our visitors.

We are working with a range of partners who are actively collaborating with us currently, and we know there are many other organisations that we would like to work with in the future.

Throughout 2018 we have been working with schools, industry and academia, to identify a range of potential topics, activities and learning experiences that Eureka! Mersey could and should be offering.

Children from Alder Hey Children and Young People’s Forum, The Hive Youth Zone and various primary and secondary schools have worked with us to explore possible design approaches, content and themes, exhibits and programmes drawing on their current experience of visitor attractions and their knowledge of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths).

Further community and industry co-creation and consultation sessions are planned for early 2019.

Eureka! Mersey will take around £10.5M to deliver. Some of this is already committed, the rest we are actively working to secure from a variety of funders.

We are working towards opening Eureka! Mersey in 2022, and hope to welcome around 187,000 visitors per year.
