The festival is sponsored by Halifax and organised by Eureka!, Square Chapel Centre for the Arts and festival partner Calderdale Council.
Elastic Band – a group of up to twenty teenage musicians and singers whose concert at Square Chapel will be a highlight of the two week festival – were at Eureka! to launch the festival. The band were joined by a bevy of Grease groupies, including two T-Birds, who rolled up in their pink Cadillac to celebrate the festival, ready for the drive-in movie festival finale at Eureka! on Saturday 12 July.
The July Project will officially begin on Tuesday 1 July when popular children’s author Anne Fine, made famous with Hollywood hit Mrs Doubtfire, will make an appearance at Square Chapel to talk about her books and answer questions.
Other highlights include a singing, dancing and acting workshop with the National Youth Music Theatre, sports training sessions, from the fast moving Ultimate Frisbee to raft building and canoeing, a talk with Liverpool poet Roger McGough and a Battle of the Bands where some of the region’s best musical talent will compete in live performances at the Piece Hall to win studio recording time.
