Naming ceremonies
Celebrate your child’s individuality with a Naming Ceremony at Eureka! As the National Children’s Museum, Eureka! makes an ideal venue for a naming ceremony. Where better to celebrate your child than a museum where children come first and play is a priority.
A naming ceremony at Eureka! is a unique opportunity to welcome a child into your family. It’s your chance to declare, before family and friends, your promise to be the best parent possible, and for friends and relatives to pledge a special commitment to your child.
Children of any age can take part (and be named) in a ceremony so you can include your older children as you celebrate the birth of your new baby.
A Eureka! Naming Ceremony is also ideal for families that include step or adopted children.
Naming ceremonies at Eureka! take place in the museum’s conservatory in the 1855 Building, Halifax’s original Victorian railway station. Your Naming Ceremony will be written especially for your family and can include the following elements:
- Welcoming and opening
- Words about your family and what your child’s arrival means to you
- Naming of your child and the meaning of the name and your reasons for choosing it
- Parents’ Promises
- Messages of commitment from your chosen Guide Parents or ‘God’ Parents
- Grandparents’ Promises
- Readings and poems (from our collection or choose your own)
- Symbolic actions, such as lighting a candle, giving gifts or signing a certificate
- Music (you can bring your own or choose tracks selected by Eureka!)
- You may also have ideas of things that you would like to include
Eureka! works in partnership with One Life Ceremonies who will write and conduct your ceremony for you. We can also offer a script only service if you have someone in mind who you would like to lead the proceedings..
Whatever you decide, we will work with you through each stage of the preparations to make sure you and your child enjoy every moment of the special day!
