Brownies, Cubs, and other uniformed groups now have the opportunity to earn their very own Eureka! badge.
Eureka! The National Children’s Museum is launching a unique badge, which children can work towards on special one-day events during November. The badge, introduced following a series of successful badge days for Brownies and Cubs, will be based around a series of challenges that will encourage groups to explore the whole museum.
The sessions will be hands-on and minds-on, sparking children’s creativity and active enquiry, inspiring them to discover and learn through play. Activities will test participant’s teamwork, investigation, communication and ingenuity. To gain their badge, children will need to complete at least one activity in each of six categories, exploring some of the key themes of the museum. The design of the badge itself has been inspired by the man behind the Eureka! name - Archimedes himself.
Jenny Parker, Eureka! Play and Learning Co-ordinator said “We’re really excited about the Eureka! badge. As well as various challenges around the museum, children will find out more about their digestive system in our science show ‘From the Chew to the Poo’ and have the opportunity to get creative by making a percussion instrument and headdress in our Carnival workshop.”
“Our special badge days will take place on Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November. We already know that groups will be coming from all over the Yorkshire and Humberside region, as well as from places further afield like Darlington and the Wirral.
Pamela Berry, Events Advisor, Girlguiding West Yorkshire West said “It’s been wonderful to have worked with the Eureka! team to promote this new and exciting badge for brownies and cubs! They’ll have a great time doing all the different clauses as they explore the museum!”
There are still some places available on Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 November. If you would like to book a place for your uniformed group just call 01422 330069.
