A 'baby boom' in the Eureka! Nursery

Five of the Eureka! Nursery’s 16 full-time staff members have turned their child care careers into life-long vocations, with all of the women expecting new babies of their own in 2011.

Due dates for the nursery offspring span just over six months, from 20 February to 17 July. Four of the expectant mums, Salma Kauser, Salma Kausar, Stacey Nicholl and Claire Lancaster, are full-time child care practitioners in the Nursery, working with children ranging from six months up to five years. Rebecca Johnson is the Director of Play and Learning at Eureka!, and has overall responsibility for the Nursery as well as the integration of play-based learning methodology into all aspects of Eureka!’s provision..

Sandra Thompson, Head of Nursery, said: ‘In any organisation it would be unusual for over a quarter of the staff to be pregnant, so there really must be something in the water here in the nursery. Our staff love their jobs and really bond with all of the children here, so it’s not a shock when someone announces a pregnancy. It’s just five at once that’s the surprise!’

The Nursery is currently hiring for full time members of staff to provide maternity cover.
