Every weekend from Saturday 22 January to Sunday 27 February, Eureka! is asking visitors to put on their inventor’s caps for a range of exciting activities to inspire discovery for all ages. In the Eureka! Theatre, children aged 7 and up and their families can take part in a Wallace & Gromit Invention Session.
Families taking part in the invention session can work together to assemble an exclusive ‘Run-About Steam Chair’ inventor’s kit created by BBC Learning and Aardman Animations. The kits are inspired by one of Wallace’s wacky inventions from the series and visitors will learn how to make their own motorised steam chair which they can take home. Younger children can also get hands-on with invention based activities in the Creativity Space.
Jenny Parker, Play and Learning Co-ordinator for Eureka! said: said ‘We’re really excited to be hosting these invention sessions as part of our Ingenious Invention season, so put your thinking caps on for a cracking day out at Eureka! this January’
Eureka! will also be celebrating the weird and wonderful world of inventions, both useless and indispensable. A gallery trail through the museum will highlight the extraordinary in the ordinary and give young learners the chance to be inspired by the objects that make everyday life possible. Families can also enjoy the Japanese art of ‘Chindogu’, or almost useless inventions and design their own ‘Chindogu’ invention.
Wallace and Gromit Invention Sessions will take place Saturdays and Sundays, and places are limited with no pre-bookings taken. Due to small parts, the sessions are appropriate for children over the age of 7 only. Invention Kits are limited, so turn-up early on the day to avoid disappointment. The Invention Sessions and Ingenious Inventions activities are free with standard admission to the museum.
